XYLISTIN 4.5 MIU INJECTION
XYLISTIN 4.5MIU INJECTION contains colistin, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage certain forms of serious bacterial infections when other antibiotics are not suitable. It is clinically effective in managing various infections caused by certain gram-negative bacteria, such as Aerobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
A bacterial infection can be defined as a proliferation of various harmful strains of bacteria in the body. They can affect any part(s) of the body, including the respiratory tract, urinary tract, eyes, ears, skin, soft tissue, or bones.
Colistin is a polypeptide antibiotic. It binds to the susceptible bacteria and disrupts the composition (lipids and proteins) of the bacterial cell membrane. As a result, it makes the contents of the bacterial cell leak out, which subsequently leads to bacterial killing. It may also inactivate the toxins produced by the bacteria.
Before receiving XYLISTIN 4.5MIU INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have any kidney problems. To avoid side effects, your doctor would prescribe a low dose of colistin and constantly monitor your kidney functions while receiving XYLISTIN 4.5MIU INJECTION.
